Rapala R90 90th Anniversary Lure Kit: Floater Small Naturistic Edition

Own a piece of angling history. To celebrate 90 years of the lure that started it all, Rapala has released the R90 Floater Small Naturistic Kit. At Gerrys Fishing, we know the Original Floater is the bedrock of many tackle boxes, but this isnt your standard selection. This kit is a curated greatest hits of balsa craftsmanship, featuring rare patterns and exclusive models that you wont find anywhere else.

Designed specifically for Trout and Perch enthusiasts, this kit transitions from a legendary collectors item to the cutting edge of modern Elite technology. Whether youre a collector looking for the rare star-patterned foil or a river specialist who demands the responsive action of balsa, this limited-edition set delivers the Wounded Minnow action that has dominated the water since 1936.

The Anniversary Trio

This kit includes three unique 7cm and 8.5cm floating lures:

1. Limited Edition Original Floater 7cm Vintage: A true unicorn for collectors. This lure features star-patterned silver foil sidesa body type produced only once before, 20 years ago. It offers a unique, shimmering flash that is unavailable in the standard Rapala lineup.

2. Original Floater 7cm Live Brown Trout: A revival of the original 2015 print pattern from the first-ever Live Series. This hyper-realistic design is a proven killer in clear water where fish have the time to inspect their prey.

3. Floater Elite 8.5cm Gilded Silver Diamond: The pinnacle of modern balsa lures. This exclusive colorway was developed specifically for the 90th Anniversary. It combines the responsive action of the Elite series with a finish that has to be seen to be believed.

Pro Tip from Gerrys Fishing

The Twitch & Rise Trigger: Because these are premium balsa floaters, their buoyancy is incredibly natural. In slow-moving rivers, cast the Live Brown Trout towards overhanging banks. Instead of a steady wind, give it two quick taps to make it dive, then let it sit until it breaks the surface again. Most Trout will follow it down and smash it the moment it starts its slow, struggling rise back to the top.

Examples of Where to Use

• Clear Water Chalk Streams: The Live Brown Trout pattern is surgically effective in high-visibility rivers where matching the hatch is the only way to get a bite.

• Urban Canals: Use the Star-Patterned Vintage Floater around bridge pilings. The unique shimmer is something the local Perch havent seen in two decades, often triggering curiosity strikes.

• Large Stillwater Margins: The Floater Elite 8.5cm is your distance weapon. Use it to reach distant weed lines where large specimen Trout are cruising for minnows.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What makes the star-patterned silver foil so special?

This specific foil pattern was a cult favorite from 20 years ago and was never brought back into mass production. For the 90th anniversary, Rapala pulled the original specs from the archives. It reflects light in a shattered pattern rather than a flat flash, mimicking the erratic scales of a panicked baitfish.

Can the 8.5cm Floater Elite handle larger predators like Pike?

While designed for Trout and Perch, the Floater Elite features a full wire-through construction. This means that even if a large crocodile Pike grabs your lure, the internal structure is strong enough to stay intact during the fight.

How deep do these lures dive?

Depending on your retrieve speed and line diameter, the 7cm models typically dive between 0.9m and 1.5m. Because they are floaters, they are excellent for working over the top of submerged hazards.

Is this kit a one-off release?

Yes. The R90 kits are a limited-edition run to celebrate Rapalas 90-year anniversary (19362026). Once the current stock at Gerrys Fishing is gone, these specific colorwaysespecially the Gilded Silver Diamondwill not be available again
