In-Depth Description and Specifications for the Abu Garcia Beast 300 Low Profile Reel (Right Hand)

The Abu Garcia Beast series is a lineup of high-performance fishing tackle designed for targeting the largest and most aggressive predatory fish. The Beast 300 Low Profile Reel is a highly specialized and powerful baitcaster that stands out from the rest. The combination of a large 300 size and a compact low-profile design makes it a unique and formidable tool for heavy-duty fishing. This standard model is a right-hand retrieve, meaning the reel is held in the left hand with the crank handle on the right.

Design Philosophy

The Beast 300 is engineered to provide the power and line capacity of a large, heavy round baitcast reel while offering the ergonomic comfort and ease of use of a low-profile model. Its gear ratio is designed to provide a good balance of speed and torque, making it a versatile workhorse for a variety of heavy-duty fishing techniques. The reel is built with premium components to withstand the intense pressure of battling large, powerful fish.

Key Features and Specifications

• Size and Profile: The reel features a surprisingly compact low-profile design for its size. The 300 size indicates a large frame and spool, providing exceptional line capacity (more than a standard bass baitcaster). This is essential for long casts and for fighting species that make powerful, sustained runs.
• Retrieval: This is a Right Hand retrieve model. The handle is located on the right side, which is the standard configuration for most anglers.
• Gear Ratio: The reel typically features a gear ratio optimized for a balance of speed and power, often around 5.3:1 or a similar ratio. This provides excellent leverage to retrieve large, high-resistance lures and to winch in large fish from heavy cover.
• Bearing System: The reel is equipped with a high-performance bearing system, often featuring 7 or more stainless steel ball bearings plus one roller bearing. This ensures incredibly smooth operation and provides the durability needed for demanding fishing situations.
• Drag System: The Beast 300 utilizes Abu Garcias powerful and smooth Carbon Matrix drag system. This system provides consistent and reliable drag pressure, capable of handling the most powerful runs of large predatory fish. The maximum drag pressure is substantial, often in the range of 10-14 kg (22-30 lbs).
• Body and Frame: The frame is constructed from a strong, single-piece aluminum material. Unlike graphite, aluminum provides superior rigidity and strength, preventing the frame from flexing under extreme loads and ensuring the gears remain perfectly aligned.
• Spool: The spool is made of machined aluminum, providing exceptional strength and durability. Its large capacity is a primary selling point, allowing for ample line for long casts and powerful runs.
• Braking System: The reel features a sophisticated braking system, such as a D2 Gear Design or similar technology, which uses a combination of centrifugal and/or magnetic brakes to provide exceptional casting control and minimize backlashing, even with a wide variety of lure weights.
• Handle: The reel comes with a comfortable, extended handle featuring oversized, power-enhancing knobs. This provides superior grip and leverage when fighting big fish.
