Tenryu Furrary Machine Quattro

At Gerrys Fishing, we know that for the serious traveling angler, the name Machine carries a heavy reputation. It is widely considered the Distance King of the Tenryu tropical range. For years, reaching that extra 20 yards meant lugging a massive 2-meter rod tube across airports. The Tenryu Furrary Machine Quattro changes the game, packing that legendary long-range power into a 4-piece travel configuration that fits inside a standard suitcase.

Measuring a substantial 9 0 (2.74m) with a casting weight of 80-170g, this rod is built for the hunt. Whether you are chasing Giant Trevally (GT) from a rocky ledge in Oman or trying to reach a school of Tuna busting bait on the horizon, the Machine Quattro provides the mechanical leverage to fire heavy poppers and stickbaits further than any other travel rod in its class. Despite the four sections, Tenryus precision-ground joints ensure that the power transition is seamless, offering a one-piece feel even when you are leaning into a 40kg predator.

The Distance Legend, Reimagined

The Furrary Machine is famous for its loading capability. Unlike shorter, stiffer tropical rods that can be unforgiving on the cast, the 9ft blank allows for a longer casting stroke, which results in massive velocity with less effort. This is a rod designed for prospectingcovering huge areas of water to find active fish. Once hooked up, the massive reserve of power in the butt section comes into play, giving you the leverage to steer powerful fish away from reef edges or boat engines.

Examples of Where to Use

• Bluefin & Yellowfin Tuna: The ultimate tool for popping to surface-feeding schools. The 9ft length allows you to stay further back from the boil to avoid spooking the fish.

• Shore-Based GT Popping: Ideal for the Land Based Game specialist who needs to launch large poppers and stickbaits from high cliffs or rocky headlands into the white water.

• Tropical Reef Exploration: A versatile choice for the Maldives, Seychelles, or Madagascar, handling everything from large Red Bass and Snapper to mid-sized Giant Trevally.

• The Suitcase Essential: Because it fits in standard hold luggage, it is the perfect just-in-case rod for any tropical trip where trophy fish are a possibility.

Gerrys Pro Tip

The Machine name isnt just for showit really is a distance-casting tool. To get the maximum yardage, dont try to snap-cast it like a short bass rod. Use the 9ft length to your advantage: use a longer drop (distance between the tip and the lure) of about 3 to 4 feet. This allows the blank to load deeply through all four sections before launching the lure. My setup advice? Pair this with a 14000 or 18000 size reel and PE 8 braid. And remember, with any 4-piece rod of this power, give the joints a quick check every few dozen caststhe vibration of 150g lures can occasionally cause them to settle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a 4-piece rod strong enough for 150g poppers?

Absolutely. Tenryu has spent decades perfecting their Quattro joint technology. These arent standard ferrules; they are precision-ground spigot joints designed to distribute stress evenly across the blank. Under a full load, the rod maintains a beautiful, progressive curve without flat spots.

Will it fit in a standard suitcase?

Yes. With a transport length of approximately 75cm, it will fit diagonally into most large checked-luggage suitcases. This eliminates the need for expensive oversized rod tubes and makes travel much more discreet and convenient.

What is the sweet spot for casting?

While it is rated 80-170g, the rod really begins to sing with lures in the 100g to 150g bracket. This is where you will achieve the legendary distances the rod is famous for. It has enough give in the tip to allow a stickbait to swim, but the backbone to pop a medium-to-large popper effectively.

Does it come with a warranty?

Yes. All Tenryu rods sold at Gerrys Fishing come with a Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects for the original owner. It is a high-performance investment built to handle a lifetime of travel and trophy fish.
